Default Most Damage?

Hi,

Please don't make fun of me for asking what is probably a dumb question

I have played many different characters and I can't really find any that I like as well as my fire ele. I do so much damage and with my elemental attunement, I don't really run low on energy.

Here's my problem: I can't find another char that does as much damage. Yes, I can play another one that will do damage one-on-one, but I don't see tons of numbers popping up as I wipe out entire groups of monsters. I really want to play other characters so I can do something different and not always play the same old stuff.

Keep in mind that I only play in normal mode.. I also never do PvP, so I only need a good PvE char. When I do my AoE spells, I can do several hundred points of damage at once. Are there other builds that can do this?

I'm really not a noob even though I sound like one.

Thank you

Well, fire eles can deal insane amounts of damage.
Dervishes with their scythes can also do massive AoE damage.
Necroes/Monks can with special builds.

[Spiteful Spirit] + [Arcane Echo]

[Mark of Pain] + [Animate Bone Minions] + [Death Nova]

Just a few that are on par!

You're absolutely right. In pve, ele deals the most damage overall to groups of enemies in a wide range of areas.

I play ranger, which deals decent damage 1 vs 1, but cant wipe mobs like an ele. What i do is, bring ele heroes/hench, or the triple necro vanquish team for damage.

Necromancer would be my reccomendation for a second class if dealing large amounts of damage to mobs is your thing. Keep in mind other classes are not as simple as *choose target->nuke*.

ok good ideas. I am a very simple player I think... GW is the first online game that I've ever played. (thanks to my BF) Even though I've been playing for a while, really understanding how all the spells/hexes/enchantments work together is something I'm just grasping.

Thank you for the help!

If you want numbers to lots of monsters, and you want those numbers big, Ele and Rit are your only 2 options.

Necro, Mesmer, Ranger, and even Dervish and Warrior have options for AoE damage. However, those numbers are not always very big, and there usually aren't many skills that will provide them.

I personally find an SS Necro to be more fun than an Ele, even though the numbers aren't as large. Seeing the monsters kill themselves and each other is awesom, and when you fill a screen with 37, 39, or 41's, it is beautiful.

Ele first with AOE fire damage.
then probably rit and/or ranger for splinter weapon/barrage.
Necro's for Spiteful Spirit.
Dervish for scythes.
Warrior last for hundred blades, cyclone axe, whirling attack, etc.

Personally, if i go warrior (or even if i would go Derv) I would probably go vampiric with those attacks, steal some life from everyone :P

Fire ele's with Savannah Heat + Tenai's Heat + Rodgort's Invocation + Liquid Flames = some pretty big numbers, plus burning to boot

For myself the ele is by far the largest "numbers game" winner. It used to not be that way (a necro won it) but after a few nightfall, and to a lesser extent EOTN skills, it is back to the highest damage dealer with respect to group damage over time.. And really it should - it is the low armor nuker of the game.

Outside of that I find an Echo Spiteful Spirit necromancer/mesmer to be a close second. When done well it outdoes any ele profession in over all damage per second even though it average damage per target is usually lower (armor ignoring helps quite a bit), but it takes either a group that understands what you are doing or a *really* good understanding of how the AI reacts to beat the ele (and some amount of luck in what groups you fight).

However, all the classes are each equally about as capable as the next and that choice may not be the best. In other RPG's I tend to gravitate towards the caster classes but I have found myself preferring one of the hybrid ones (A dervish).

There are different criteria to consider.

Elementalists are good at dealing massive AoE damage that is elemental in nature. Great against many squishies. Horrible against ranger opponents. Also, the elementalist's damage is rather a spike type - you can unload a lot of damage, but it costs you energy, meaning you can come short quite easily if the opponents counter your energy management.

Some competitors I'd name:
-barrage+splinter rangers: Immense spikes of armor ignoring damage that can be maintained for a little while (about as long as an ele in my experience)
-assassins: I don't think any other class can really match death blossom+moebius strike. The only class where I actually had to rework a build because it killed too quickly.
-mesmer: while not good as a damage dealer, a mesmer can shoot a huge spike or armor ignoring damage much much more quickly than an elementalist. Likely to rely on PvE skills, though. Rather lacking in endurance, unfortunately.

If your goal is to have other options so you dont always play the same thing, my suggestion is....

create many characters !!!

The only way to find what else you might like is to try different options. If all you do is look for a way to replicate what you are already doing on your ele then your goal of trying something different will be unmet.

It can be fun to stand in the thick of things and chop away with your axe while laughing off your foe's pitiful attempts to resist your might.

It is a joy to turn your enemies strengths agaisnt him. Let the monk just try to cast through your Backfire (properly covered by other hexes of course) or the melee strike while your Empathy and degen hexes tear him apart.

There is nothing quite like rendering your target helpless with a cripling arrow coated with poison and then destroying his self heal with a carefullly placed distracting shot. And nothing like the spike damage potential of a ranger.

Who knows the power of having an army at his command ? A horde of undead rushing forward in a tidal wave of death to overwhelm any effort at defense. Your foes tremble at the though of facing you.

Do you want to be the life of the party. The single most important member of any mission group? A group can get by without a ranger, or without a mesmer, warrior, or even ele or necro, but....A monk is a must.

Sorry about the narrow cliched descriptions of the classes but my point is that there is alot out there. Don't restrict yourself.

If you turn your game into Hardmode, then eles start doing quite low damage. Because eles have only elemental damage and not armor ignore like necro, mesmer, splinter and so on.

This is what i do: run a critical barrager with sharpen daggers instead of the spirit (you), have a barager hero (ranger this time) lay the spirit and barrage as normal BUT as your other hero have one of the rits with Spliter weapon/nightmare weapon (depending on the area) and sundering weapon.
As the last hero have a monk running whatever you want (heal preferably) but with 5 or 6 points in smiting pryers for judges insight: with this combo i deal ~150 damage per hit wen i have sundering weapon and judges insight on me and ~130+AoE wen i have splinter/nightmare weapon on me.
With this i tore through all of torment with H/H

Hope it helped!
